Ralph Lauren's Opening/Closing Ceremony Looks

Team USA’s opening and closing ceremony outfits are once again designed by preeminent American designer Ralph Lauren. The cinch-waist, color-blocked anoraks have a throwback, sporty vibe but feature some sneaky new warming technology. The jackets include a smart, honeycomb-like fabric layer built in that expands or contracts in response to temperature changes—all without the use of a battery or any wired technology. Other items in the collection include graphic beanies, fleece rugby shirts and merino wool sweaters. This is also the most sustainable Olympic collection to date, with recycled materials, US-sourced wool and Polartec fabric made from plastic bottles.

Nike Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Collection

The ACG boot sneakers are really cool, but only available to Olympians.

Nike

Nearly all of the medal ceremonies in Beijing will be held out in the open-air where temperatures are expected to be near freezing. So Nike designed their medal stand collection as an answer to that bone-chilling dilemma. Think lots of layers and technical fabrics. An icy palette of blues gives off, like many of the other uniforms, an almost vintage-inspired feel. But the finishing touches really modern and cool. All jackets come with side-vent zippers to allow for extra flexibility and the trail pants have been outfitted with a quick-release magnetic buckle, which Nike calls a “first-of-its-kind” feature. Specially designed for the Team USA athletes (and, unfortunately not available for retail), the ACG Gaiadome boot features a zippered back entry along with a no-tie/toggle lacing system. The Gore-Tex and fleece upper keeps warm feet while a chunky lug sole helps reinforce the competitor’s steps (even on ice and snow).

Snowboarding Uniforms

Style is important to the sport of snowboarding. Which is why Volcom’s collection for the Beijing Games is made up of five kits—so athletes can show off their individual style when competing. The main uniform, which viewers will see used most by Team USA, features a 3-in-1 Gore-tex jacket with an insulated three-layer shell, a removable down sweater, a down vest and a removable hood. A relaxed-fit Gore-tex pant completes the signature snowboarding silhouette. Psychedelic-printed tops, heat-insulated puffers and Zip-Tech-detailed pants with handwarmer pockets will keep athletes toasty during the competition, while cozy sweatshirts and knitted beanies ensure ultimate comfort during off hours. And the final touch? A lucky (faux) rabbit’s foot charm has been stashed in every jacket’s front pocket.
