The Facial Procedure Jaclyn Hill Says Left Her Swollen for Months

Influencers are often the first to try the latest treatments and procedures because like celebrities who admit to undergoing aesthetic treatments, they’re walking billboards for good results. For beauty influencer Jaceln Hill, a recent treatment to help lift and tighten her face left her as a walking billboard for possible side effects, instead.

Hill took to social media to share with her fans the reason why she’s looked a little different recently and her experience getting a thread lift that didn’t give her the result she desired. Thread lifts are temporary absorbable sutures that are used to reposition mildly sagging skin in order to improve the facial contour. The threads are placed, tightened, cut and eventually dissolve over time while helping to stimulate collagen production in the areas where they’re placed.

“I’m about to get work done on my face,” she says excitedly into the camera. What follows is Hill sharing how the procedure, done sometime early last year, left her with a swollen face for months. In May 2021, Hill shared on Instagram that shortly after her procedure fans were noting her face looked different. “For those asking exactly what I had done, I had threading done all over my face, jaw, cheeks and brows,” she wrote. “The recovery isn’t this bad, but I had a lot done. My face looks like a balloon right now but I know once the swelling subside[s]I’m going to be happy with the results.”

In June of 2021, the makeup maven cautioned on Twitter that if anyone was thinking of getting PDO threads placed in their face, to think twice. “Such a mistake. My face is SO wide & EXTREMELY swollen. It’s been over a month! I am so unhappy with the results and now I have to wait for them to dissolve.”

Without knowing the specifics of Hill’s case, it’s difficult to say what lead to her severe swelling. While thread lifts are a noninvasive treatment, they do come with their own set of low risks, because they are noninvasive, they carry virtually no risk of scarring, severe bruising or bleeding. Some common risks associated with the treatment are irritation, infection or sutures becoming visible under their skin.
