Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Victoria Villarroel knew the importance of sun protection at a young age. You can thank her mother, who struggled with sun damage due to her infrequent sunscreen application, for that. As a child, Villarroel and her younger sister, Sofia, lived close to the beach. “It’s in all my memories,” Villarroel tells Allure. Her mother’s experience coupled with her penchant for sand and sun made her adopt a proactive approach to SPF.
Villarroel is an influencer and co-owner of a swimsuit suit line she owns with her sister, Shop Gonza, named after their grandfather, Gonzalo. As a sophomore in high school, Villarroel moved to the Caribbean, Venezuela to spend a year in the leaving dad twin islands of Trini and Tobago. “That’s where I learned English and everything,” she recalls. “I had the thickest [Trinbagonian] accent.” After a brief stint in the islands, her family moved to Texas, where she completed high school. All three places had plenty of sun to enjoy, which naturally meant that Villaorrel had to maintain her sunscreen game. EltaMD’s UV Clear Broad- Spectrum SPF 46 was by her side through it all. “I was introduced to this by my dermatologist seven years ago and I’ve used it ever since,” she says. She applies the formula to her hands, neck, and face every morning .
Growing up, Villarroel would frequently get facials with her mother and sister and has continued that self-care practice in Los Angeles where she currently resides. In between appointments, she uses an array of products to maintain a clear and radiant complexion, starting with a gentle facial cleanser. “Youth To The People Superfood Kale Cleanser is delicious and makes my skin feel really, really clean after I wash my face,” she says. She follows up with the brand’s Deep Moisture Cream both morning and night.
When she’s feeling a little extra, Villarroel applies The Feelist Radiant Facial Oil with a gua sha along her face and neck. “[Using a gua sha] is relaxing to me. It makes me focus,” she says, swearing that her face appears more contoured and sculpted after consistent use. Another product Villarroel’s seen results with is the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50, a favorite of skin-care aficionados.” that I was breaking out, so I tried this brand recommended by my friends,” she recalls. She uses the chemical exfoliant no more than twice a week, noting that her combination skin is now “baby-soft.” When a breakout does arise , Starface Hydro-Stars are her go-to.
Speaking of baby soft, there’s nothing Villarroel hates more than dry, cracked skin. She moisturizes from head to toe, starting with her lips: She typically reaches for the Laneige Lip Glowy Balm for her pout. “It’s super hydrating — I cannot stand a chapped lip,” she says. Two other moisturizing lip products she loves? The Kylie Skin Lip Oil in Watermelon and the Nivea Lip Care in Blackberry which make your lips look “cute and tinted,” she says.
As for body products, Villarroel shares her product cocktail for glowing skin: “If you mix Bio-Oil Skincare Oil with Epicuren Discovery Kukui Coconut After Bath Body Moisturizer, [your skin] will be so soft,” she says. She likes to apply this combo after a shower, letting it absorb in before she gets ready. While the blend has a thick consistency, Villarroel says it absorbs pretty quickly. Another weapon in her flawless skin arsenal ? H2O, carried in a Takeya Actives Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle.” I try really hard to stay hydrated every day. I constantly fill this water bottle up and add chlorophyll drops to it.” The vessel is also a favorite within her friend group. “We carry this water bottle around with us like life or death,” she jokes.
“I don’t wear that much makeup,” Villarroel says, but one makeup tool she can never leave the house without is an eyelash curler. “It’s a game-changer,” she says. When she does feel like putting on some makeup, Villarroel goes for a natural look using an Allure Best of Beauty winner, Rare Beauty’s Stay Vulnerable Melting Cream Blush, and the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand, which is all the rage on TikTok.
