The beauty industry is jam packed with promising skin-care products, but with a little research, it’s easy to discover brands that are actually worth the hype. Our latest find? Sorella Apothecary. If you haven’t heard of them yet, it’s time to get acquainted.
Sorella Apothecary is a professional skin-care brand started by two sisters-by-marriage that was created with the intention of fusing science and nature into every formula. “With our products, we want someone to look forward to their skin-care regimen every day,” says co-founder Danielle Munley. “It’s all about the sensory experience—from the start of their regimen, a person can look forward to picking up Sorella bottles and move to enjoying the texture, smell and the feel of the product on their skin.”
As an aesthetician, Danielle’s co-founder, Emily Sindlinger, was the driving force behind ensuring that the products were both results-driven and full of clean ingredients (each ingredient is hand-chosen to serve a very specific function or purpose). With that mindset, countless hours of research went into choosing ingredients and making sure that they weren’t compromised by “fluff.”
Unsurprisingly, the sisters’ hard work paid off, and the brand is now a fan favorite. Ahead, Emily and Danielle give their best beauty product recommendations for aging skin.
Sorella Tropical Topical Matte SPF 30 ($48)
No surprise here, but the sun is a major cause of fine lines and wrinkles, meaning sunscreen is an absolute must. But according to Danielle and Emily, many people frequently skip this skin-care step because they feel like they don’t need sunscreen on a cloudy day.
“The UV index, which describes the chance of exposure to burning rays, changes throughout the day but doesn’t disappear when the sun does,” they explain. “For those who rarely burn, don’t be fooled.”
This SPF is broad-spectrum and has a mineral-based formula to protect against UVA and UVB rays, the two types of harmful rays emitted by the sun. “Our Tropical Topical Matte SPF 30 will leave your skin feeling shine-free, [making it] an excellent option for those who are breakout prone.”
Sorella Pomegranate Acai Antioxidant Serum ($66)
“Also known as our vitamin C serum, this is great to slow down the aging process because of the antioxidants and vitamins A, C, and E to boost the skin’s barrier and fight off free radicals,” Danielle and Emily explain. “Free radicals are one of the [major] causes of aging, [and] vitamin C and vitamin A are two of the most coveted antioxidants in the skin-care world because of their unique ability to stimulate and support the production of collagen and elastin.”
Over time our body starts to slow down production of collagen and elastin, which leads to fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. By applying topical antioxidants like this one, we can slow this process down. “Apply a pea-sized amount daily after the skin has been cleansed and toned,” they explain.
Sorella Facial in a Bottle ($82)
Apply a pea-sized amount of this product to cleansed, toned skin at night to lighten, tighten, and brighten the skin with ingredients that treat all signs of aging. “The bakuchiol helps firm up fine lines, the hexylresorcinol works to lighten pigmentation, and the niacinamide works to heal the skin barrier,” explains the sisters. “It serves as a retinol alternative with botanical ingredient bakuchiol, making it safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding.”
Sorella The Balm ($92)
“This rich peptide-packed moisturizer heals and restores balance to aging skin,” explains the sisters. “With aging comes dryness, so The Balm uses argireline to visibly reduce wrinkles and beeswax to heal and restore all skin types, leaving the skin visibly hydrated and firm.”
To use, warm a dime-sized amount of this velvety balm in your fingertips and apply to cleansed and toned face and neck at nighttime. Skin will feel deeply hydrated and appear visibly smoother.
Sorella Blueberry Milk Moisturizer ($88)
For a more radiant complexion, use this top-seller at the end of your routine every day. “This brightening moisturizer is packed with vitamin C and oligopeptide-51 to lighten pigmentation while ingredients like cogon grass and hyaluronic acid offer long term hydration,” explains Danielle and Emily. “The lightweight moisturizer smooths and lights to prevent future aging and diminish signs of aging.” Fun fact: This was the brand’s most sold product in 2021, so the hype is real.
