Target’s New Initiative Will Make Shopping For Sustainable Beauty Easier

According to a release, Target is launching Target Zero, an initiative that helps shoppers to easily identify sustainable options throughout its beauty isles. Specifically, the new effort will identify products that are refillable, reusable, compostable, made from recycled content, or made from materials that reduce the use of plastic.

Shoppers will now see a Target Zero icon both in stores and online, which will signal that the product is part of the initiative. Brands included in the sustainable lineup are Burt’s Bees, Pacifica, Grove Co. and more.

Target Zero is a branch of the brand’s sustainability strategy known as Target Forward, which aims to “co-create an equitable and regenerative future with its guests, partners and communities, and includes ambitions to design and elevate sustainable brands and innovate to eliminate waste,” reads the release. Some of the goals included for Target Forward are to become the market leader for creating and curating sustainable brands by 2030 and to have 100 percent of its own brand plastic packaging be recyclable, compostable and reusable by 2025.

“Target Zero unlocks important progress toward our Target Forward ambitions, each of which require collaboration from our partners and action from our guests to be realized,” says senior vice president of corporate responsibility and president of the Target Foundation Amanda Nusz. “By making it easier for our guests to identify which products are designed to reduce waste, Target Zero helps them make informed decisions about what they purchase and advances a collective impact across our brand partners, our product shelves, and within our homes and communities. ”
