Best Bikini Brands For Women Over 40
Women over 40 usually dread even thinking about shopping for swimsuits…let alone bikinis! If you’re not a fan of bikinis, that’s okay, I have plenty of one-piece swimsuits on the site and you can find them in the posts and video I linked below. First, I want to discuss strategy…This is NOT the time to fly blind. Have a plan. Know your body. Know your brands.

This is the perfect brand to try out if you need some basic bikini essentials! I bought this cute pink bikini for my trip to Arizona last year. This exact suit is sold out, but this year’s version is a gorgeous lapis blue. I love that the top has sleeves (extra coverage from the sun is always a plus!), and the high waist bottoms are incredibly flattering.

Vitamin A is a sexy brand with less coverage but great pieces and design details! The bikini I’m wearing above has cool rings on the side of the bottoms that just make it a little different! But, this year’s version of this white suit has the coolest cutouts on both the top and bottom – so on trend!

Vix is definitely the sexiest brand on this list. They usually have less coverage and more strappy, sexy details. If you’re looking to spice up your next vacation or pool day, this is the perfect brand to check out!

Bikinis With More Coverage
Becca – I love this brand! They have really nice fabric that keeps everything held in so you feel secure! I also have a few one-pieces that are amazing.
L*Space – Has really fun colors and patterns. The material is thinner so it’s very stretchy and comfortable but still makes you feel secure.
Johanna Ortiz – You can find some serious standout swimsuits from this brand! She also has great one-pieces!
Here’s what I know about my body… Since I have a rectangle shape, athletic build, and little definition in my waist, I tend to prefer a bikini because it creates more of an hourglass shape. I also prefer to add width or volume to my chest with wider straps, ruffles, or a one-shoulder top. I do not like straps that wrap around my torso since I have very little space between my bust and waist. I’ve talked about how my body and diet have changed through menopause here if you’re interested.
Your Body & What To Look For…
I could spend endless blogs delineating the differences between pieces and what you should look for, BUT I want to keep it simple cause I know you are busy. I’ve touched on what to look for in a swimsuit depending on your body shape in this post and this post. But the most important piece is actually knowing your body shape. If you haven’t figured that out yet, start here!
Here’s the headline: prints, ties, ruffles, straps, and sparkle all draw attention or add volume. Put those details on the half that needs volume to create balance. In other words, if you are small chested, that’s where you put the pizazz… to add volume. In contrast, if you have bigger hips, don’t wear string tie bottoms in a floral print. You with me??
If you want modest coverage up top, look for a ruffled bandeau or one-shoulder top. I have a couple of tops like this and they cover everything!
If you’re over 40 and have a go-to bikini brand you love…please share in the comments! Don’t keep that to yourself!
